New Honda CRF450R and CRF250R 2020 Models are due to arrive early September at The Honda Shop in Midland.

Three torque control settings for Honda’s flagship CRF450R; mid-range boost for 250R

Creating more power — and putting it to the ground — is the basis for the 2020 updates to Honda’s CRF450R and CRF250R motocross bikes.

The flagship CRF450R picks up a three-step torque control setting. The software monitors the rate of rev increase and momentarily cuts power delivery if it detects a rev “flare” that indicates wheelspin.

Revised mapping for the three riding modes — standard, smooth and aggressive — can be adjusted on the handlebar switch to suit course conditions.

The battery position sits 28mm lower to reduce the centre of gravity and the Showa suspension internals are updated.

The CRF250R benefits from engine upgrades to boost low and mid-range power.

Key updates include a new cam profile, reshaped combustion chamber, 10 per cent bigger air filter, revised exhaust design, the deletion of the exhaust resonator, and a gear position sensor to enable ignition maps to be set for each cog.

The left radiator has grown to improve cooling and second gear now has a higher ratio for improved low-speed drive.

Chassis updates to improve the bike’s handling include a lighter frame and new swingarm with improved flex.

Low-speed damping has been boosted on the forks, while the rear shock has increased low-speed compression that relaxes more than its predecessor as the pace picks up.
